Chester Transportation Center
The Chester Transportation Center represents a five-year, $8 million renovation project by SEPTA with the City of Chester. The Center is one of SEPTA’s multi-modal transit facilities — a hub for the R2 Wilmington/Marcus Hook Regional Rail Line and 9 bus routes serving southern Delaware County and the surrounding area. The R2 line offers southbound service to Wilmington and Newark, Delaware and northbound service to Philadelphia, including stops at the Airport and Center City. Improvements were made to platforms, canopies and the passenger tunnel beneath the railroad tracks. Customer service amenities include a SEPTA police station, information center, ticket office and community room. Also added was new interior and exterior lighting, signage and space for potential community and retail spaces inside the station building. Accessibility improvements include the installation of elevators connecting the platforms to street level.
